the
lowest
declivity
of
Anti-Libanus

miles

the

splendid

Syrian
cities
,
existing
from
a
remote
antiquity
.
After
sustaining
several
sieges
under
the
Moslems
and
others
,
it
was
finally
destroyed
by
an
earthquake
in
1759.
Its
ruins
