  Par·a·si·ta n. pl.  Zool. (a) An artificial group formerly made for parasitic insects, as lice, ticks, mites, etc. (b) A division of copepod Crustacea, having a sucking mouth, as the lerneans.  They are mostly parasites on fishes.  Called also {Siphonostomata}.
