 Sprain v. t. [imp. & p. p. Sprained p. pr. & vb. n. Spraining.]  To weaken, as a joint, ligament, or muscle, by sudden and excessive exertion, as by wrenching; to overstrain, or stretch injuriously, but without luxation; as, to sprain one's ankle.
