 A·ri·el n., or A·ri·el ga·zelle.  Zool. (a) A variety of the gazelle (Antilope dorcas, or  Gazella, dorcas), found in Arabia and adjacent countries. (b) A squirrel-like Australian marsupial, a species of Petaurus. (c) A beautiful Brazilian toucan Ramphastos ariel).

 A·ri·el n.  In the Cabala, a water spirit; in later folklore, a light and graceful spirit of the air.
 Note:In Zoology, ariel is used adjectively of certain birds noted for their graceful flight; as, the ariel toucan; the ariel petrel.

 Ariel
    the lion of God. (1.) One of the chief men sent by Ezra to
    procure Levites for the sanctuary (Ezra 8:16).
      (2.) A symbolic name for Jerusalem (Isa. 29:1, 2, 7) as
    "victorious under God," and in Ezek. 43:15, 16, for the altar
    (marg., Heb. 'ariel) of burnt offerings, the secret of Israel's
    lion-like strength.
